VICTORIA FALLS
THE WORLD’S MOST SPECTACULAR WATERFALL
Victoria Falls, straddling the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, is one of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders. Known locally as “Mosi-oa-Tunya,” or “The Smoke That Thunders,” the falls cascade over 100 meters into the Zambezi Gorge, creating a thunderous roar and a mist that can be seen from miles away. The surrounding rainforest, nourished by the spray, is home to diverse flora and fauna, including birds, butterflies, and primates. Visitors can experience the falls from multiple vantage points along well-maintained trails, take exhilarating boat trips on the Zambezi River, or enjoy adrenaline activities such as white-water rafting, bungee jumping, and helicopter flights for panoramic views. Beyond its dramatic beauty, Victoria Falls is also a cultural and historical landmark, offering travelers a blend of natural spectacle, wildlife, and vibrant local experiences.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
The best time to visit Victoria Falls depends on whether you want to see maximum water flow or enjoy calmer conditions for activities. Here’s a breakdown by season:
February to May: Peak water flow following the rainy season. The falls are at their most powerful and spectacular, with enormous spray and thunderous roar, but some viewpoints may be misty.
June to August: Dry season with lower water levels. Views are clearer, and activities like helicopter flights, bridge walks, and white-water rafting are easier to enjoy.
September to November: Water levels are lower, but this is an excellent time for wildlife viewing and photography. Adventure activities on the Zambezi are at their best.
December to January: Beginning of the rainy season. Water levels start to rise, and the surrounding landscape turns lush and green. Some trails may be slippery.
Overall, February to May is best for the full dramatic spectacle, while June to September is ideal for adventure activities and clear views.
