Waterfall Day Hike

PAMOJA SAFARIS

TRIP ITINERARY OVERVIEW

There are numerous waterfalls around the vicinity of the cities of Arusha and Moshi, ranging from hour-long trips to half- and full-day excursions. Depending on the time available and desired challenge level, we’ll lead you on a scenic nature walk, traversing the villages and forests that line the slopes of Mount Meru (Arusha) and Mount Kilimanjaro (Moshi).

NOTE: For all day trip itineraries, it is necessary to already be in Arusha City, our starting point, on the morning of departure. It is not possible to do excursions on the same day as your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), regardless of arrival time, due to the time required for arrivals and transfers.

your adventure OPTIONS

HALF-DAY: Napuru Waterfall Hike (Mount Meru, Arusha)

After you have breakfast at your lodging, we’ll pick you up around 9:00 am and proceed with the short drive to the trailhead. After a brief orientation with your guide, we’ll set off through the forest, down towards a majestic 256-foot (78-meter) waterfall. The entire experience will take approximately two hours of light-to-moderate hiking. Be prepared to get wet in case of rain or any necessary river crossings.

After your hike concludes, we’ll take you to lunch at an authentic local restaurant to try local cuisine such as nyama choma (grilled meat), ugali (corn polenta), soups, and seasonal vegetables and fruits (optional, as some guests will have lunch provided for them at the hotel).

FULL-DAY: Materuni Waterfall Hike & Coffee Farm Experience
(Mount Kilimanjaro, Moshi)

After you have breakfast at your lodging, we’ll pick you up around 8:00 am and proceed with the two-hour drive to the trailhead.

First, join us on a traditional coffee experience—learn how local farmers grow, roast, and brew Tanzania’s finest Arabica beans. After that, we’ll trek through lush rainforests to the stunning Materuni Waterfall, where you’ll have the opportunity to swim in the crystal-clear waters. To cap off the afternoon, we’ll provide you with traditional Chagga cuisine, tasting homemade mbege (banana beer), machalari (cooked banana), pilau (spiced rice), and mtori (banana and meat stew), along with seasonal fruits and vegetables.

After a return journey of two hours or so, you’ll return to your lodge in the late afternoon, in time for a late dinner at your lodge.
