Ngorongoro Crater Day Trip
PAMOJA SAFARIS
TRIP ITINERARY OVERVIEW
The Ngorongoro Crater is a vast, wildlife-rich volcanic caldera in northern Tanzania and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As the centerpiece of the larger Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA), it is known for its breathtaking natural beauty and incredible density of wildlife within the roughly 12×12-mile (20×20-kilometer) caldera, including all five of the “Big Five” game animals.
Roughly three million years ago, a massive volcano (larger than Kilimanjaro) collapsed inward after a powerful eruption, forming the world’s largest intact, unflooded volcanic caldera. The steep crater walls, which rise over 1,200 feet (600 meters) high, have created a natural barrier that contains an incredible variety of wildlife within their walls.
The caldera floor, which spans over 100 square miles (260 square kilometers), contains a variety of ecosystems that house a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 500 species recorded, including large flocks of flamingos that gather on Lake Magadi.
NOTE: For all day trip itineraries, it is necessary to already be in Arusha City, our starting point, on the morning of departure. It is not possible to do excursions on the same day as your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), regardless of arrival time, due to the time required for arrivals and transfers.
your adventure

Arusha to Ngorongoro Crater
After you have an early breakfast at your lodging, we’ll pick you up around 6:30 am and proceed with the four-hour drive from Arusha to Ngorongoro Crater.
Note: we can arrange a pick-up at any time, but the earlier we get to the park, the more active the animals will be.

SAFARI ADVENTURE AND PICNIC LUNCH
After proceeding with entry formalities and a bathroom stop, we’ll begin our safari adventure. We’ll start off trying to locate the notoriously shy rhinoceros, and proceed to explore the rest of the caldera throughout the day. Around noon, we will have lunch within the park at a designated picnic site, and after that, we will slowly make our way up and out of the park to begin our drive back to Arusha.
You’ll return to your lodge in the late afternoon or early evening.
