TRIP ITINERARY OVERVIEW

Your safari adventure kicks off with a thrilling three-day escapade in Tarangire National Park, a realm where elephants roam free and ancient baobabs stand tall, telling stories of the savannah. Your journey then sweeps you away to the legendary Serengeti, where you’ll spend four unforgettable days on safari. Here, nestled in the comfort of your luxury campsite, you’ll have a front-row seat to the mesmerizing spectacle of the great migration. The highlight of your trip is a day spent in the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural amphitheater that offers unparalleled views of Africa’s diverse wildlife. Guided by experts with an eagle eye for the continent’s most spectacular creatures, you’re guaranteed wildlife sightings that will take your breath away. But that’s not all—intimate visits to local tribes will enrich your journey with profound cultural insights, weaving together a tapestry of Tanzania’s rich natural beauty and vibrant cultural heritage. This safari isn’t just a trip; it’s a deep dive into the heart of Tanzania.

YOUR 9-DAY ADVENTURE

We are thrilled to welcome you to Tanzania. Your first stop is the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) after your international trip to Tanzania. Your guide will welcome you at the airport with your name on a board for you to easily recognize us.

The transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to Arusha will be 1.5 hours, after which we’ll help you check into your
lodge. Unpack, rest and get ready for our delicious dinner.

After your transfer from the airport to our lodge and a warm welcome in Arusha, our guide will help with check in and getting to your rooms.

In the evening we will enjoy dinner together and receive our first trip briefing. Your guide will share what adventures the coming days hold for us. Eat well, and don’t forget to rest, too. As they say, the early bird catches the worm, or in this case, the elephants, which is why our first day of the safari starts early the next morning.

Let’s get the adventure started!
After an early breakfast, we’ll leave at 8:00 am for a two-hour drive to Tarangire National Park. Did you know that Tarangire would be world-famous in its own right if it wasn’t if it weren’t for the nearby Serengeti stealing the ranks? Tarangire is huge, full of animals (especially elephants), and full of breathtaking landscapes.

We will go on a game drive, stop for a hot lunch around noon and
have an additional afternoon drive before making our way back to our lodging inside of the park.

After indulging in a leisurely breakfast at our lodge, we’ll set off for another exhilarating drive around the park. Diverging from yesterday’s northern exploration, today’s adventure takes us to the less-traveled southern region of Tarangire, meandering through marshlands nourished by the Tarangire River.

This area is celebrated for its remarkable concentration of elephants and majestic baobab trees. Visitors between June and November are in for a treat, with the possibility of witnessing vast herds of zebra, wildebeest, and cape buffalo numbering in the thousands. Those visiting from December to March will find the herds more dispersed, yet the park remains a bustling hub of wildlife activity, home to a diverse array of species including birds. During your journey, keep an eye out for waterbucks, giraffes, dik-diks, impalas, elands, Grant’s gazelles, vervet monkeys, banded mongooses, and olive baboons. The predator presence in Tarangire is equally impressive, featuring lions, leopards, cheetahs, honey badgers, and African wild dogs.

And for bird enthusiasts, Tarangire offers a veritable feast for the eyes with over 550 bird species making it a birdwatcher’s haven. Following a late lunch back at the lodge, we’ll hop back into our vehicle(s) and journey to our next lodge in Karatu, carrying with us the day’s rich tapestry of sightings and experiences.

Following a hearty breakfast, we embark on a journey towards the mesmerizing Serengeti, taking a scenic route that climbs up and over the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area. We’ll pause along the way to soak in the breathtaking views of the crater, a moment of awe-inspiring beauty.

The unique name “Ngorongoro” echoes the sound of a cowbell, drawing from the area’s historical significance to the Maasai people as a grazing ground for their cattle. Try saying “ngoro ngoro” three times fast, and you’ll quickly understand the origin of this evocative name.

Our adventure continues with a picnic lunch at the Serengeti National Park gate, setting the stage for our inaugural game drive across the iconic plains that have captured the imagination of explorers for centuries. As we journey towards your lodge, keep your eyes peeled for a diverse array of wildlife, from graceful antelopes and zebras to thundering herds of wildebeest and the majestic lions that roam these lands.

Thanks to our team’s seamless communication with park rangers and other personnel via radio, we’re always in the loop about the most exciting wildlife sightings. This ensures that you’re always at the heart of the action, never missing out on those once-in-a-lifetime safari moments. We’ll arrive at Moyo Tented Camp, our luxurious home in the heart of the Serengeti, in the late afternoon. There, you’ll find time to refresh, unwind, and unpack before we gather for dinner at 7:30 pm. Settle in; this breathtakingly beautiful camp will be our base for the next three nights.

Days 4 & 5 are our two full days in the Serengeti, and comprise the heart of your trip. Here’s what your daily itinerary will look like:

MORNING: We’ll begin the day with a hearty buffet breakfast at Moyo Tented Camp, featuring a wide array of choices from eggs and sausages to bread, pastries, and fresh beverages. With appetites satisfied, we set off on our Serengeti game drive. Every day promises new sights, but rest assured, the iconic wildlife of Tanzania—lions on the hunt, elephants in their majestic wander, wildebeest and zebras at the waterholes, and giraffes among the acacia trees—awaits your discovery.

Daily, we have the option to return to camp for a buffet lunch, then enjoy a two- to three-hour siesta. This coincides with the animals’ least active period, as they seek shade and rest during the intense midday sun. Alternatively, for those eager to maximize their safari experience, we offer the choice of a picnic lunch in the wilderness.

Our chosen lunch locations are always conveniently situated near restrooms, or we’ll stop by them on our route. While you unwind and savor your midday meal amidst the stunning backdrop of nature, rest assured that our skilled guides are vigilantly tracking any nearby wildlife movements, prioritizing your safety and peace of mind.

Our safari game drives typically conclude in the early evening, but an intriguing sighting might extend our adventure slightly later. However, we ensure our return to the lodge by dusk, adhering to the park’s regulations against driving after dark.

Upon our return, you’ll have ample opportunity to unwind, freshen up with a shower, and relax before dinner, which is graciously served from 7:30 to 8:30 pm. Should time permit, we invite you to enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the lounge area.

Dinner is a delightful buffet affair, capped off with a dessert to sweeten the evening. After dinner, you’re welcome to linger and enjoy the ambiance or retire to your tent for a restful night’s sleep.

Moyo Tented Camp, established by a safari guide with extensive experience, is the quintessential spot to cap off your evening adventures. Relax with a refreshing drink beside the bonfire as the Serengeti sunset wraps up another glorious day, or retreat to your tent for some serene reading time following a comforting warm shower—the evening is yours to enjoy as you wish.

With an understanding that traditional Tanzanian dishes are typically straightforward, we’ve tailored our menu to please Western palates, providing exquisite buffet selections prepared by accomplished chefs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Rest assured, a peaceful night’s sleep is guaranteed; every room is equipped with a queen-sized bed (or two doubles), adorned with a premium mattress, crisp sheets, a warm blanket, and plush pillows, ensuring your utmost comfort and relaxation.

We’re setting off early for the Ngorongoro Crater, a sprawling 12 miles/20 km wide natural wonder formed by an extinct volcano. The morning promises to be an adventure, with a drive through the crater’s caldera offering front-row seats to the daily routines of its resident wildlife. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch in a specially designated spot, surrounded by the breathtaking landscape of the crater’s heart.

Following lunch, we’ll gently ascend from the crater floor, heading back to the comfort of our lodge for a tranquil evening. This day blends exhilarating exploration with serene relaxation, perfectly capturing the essence of our safari adventure.

Following a leisurely breakfast at our lodge, we’ll embark on our journey back to Arusha. Along the way, we’ll pause at a souvenir crafts shop for those interested in taking a piece of Tanzania home with them. Next, we’ll visit a local Maasai tribe, offering an opportunity to witness their traditional dancing. Yet, beyond the dance, the true highlight lies in the enriching experience of understanding their culture and way of life.

Our day concludes with a heartfelt farewell dinner at your lodge in Arusha, a perfect moment to reflect on the unforgettable experiences shared and the lasting memories made.

Unless you’re opting for one of our wonderful post-trip add-ons (see below), we will say “see you next time” today.

Take as long as you like to relax and enjoy your surroundings before we will bring you to the airport in preparation for your flight home (3-4 hours before your flight).

Thank you for enjoying the beauty of Tanzania with us – until next time!
