YOUR 10-DAY ADVENTURE

We are excited to welcome you to Tanzania at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) after your initial trip to Tanzania. Your guide will be waiting at the airport with your name on a board for you to easily recognize us.

After a 1.5 hour transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to Arusha, we’ll help you check into your
lodge so that you can unpack and rest a bit before dinner.

After our guide welcomed you at the airport and brought you to Arusha, they will help you check in to your lodge.

We will enjoy dinner together and after receive our first trip briefing, going over what adventures the coming days hold. Eat well, but be sure to rest too the first day of the safari starts bright and early the next morning.

Time to start the adventure!
Following an early breakfast, we’ll leave at 8:00 am for a two-hour drive to Tarangire National Park. If it weren’t for the nearby Serengeti, Tarangire would be world-famous in its own right-it’s huge, full of animals (especially elephants), and full of breathtaking landscapes.

We’ll do a game drive and then stop for a hot lunch around noon.
We’ll then have an additional afternoon drive before heading to our lodging inside of the park.

We’ll enjoy a leisurely breakfast at our lodge before heading out to have another drive around the park. Whereas yesterday we explored the northern area, today we will be focusing on the less-explored southern region of Tarangire, through marshlands that are fed by the Tarangire River.

Famous for its high density of elephants and baobab trees, guests visiting June to November can expect to also see large herds of thousands of zebra, wildebeest, and cape buffalo. If visiting from December through March the herds will be more spread out, but it will still be teeming with wildlife, including many species of birds. Animals you may come across during your time in the park include waterbucks, giraffes, dik-diks, impalas, elands, Grant’s gazelles, vervet monkeys, banded mongooses, and olive baboons; while predators in Tarangire include lions, leopards, cheetahs, honey
badgers, and African wild dogs.

As an added bonus there are also over 550 species of birds to be found, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. We’ll have a late lunch back at the lodge before returning to the vehicle(s) and then head to our lodge in Karatu.

Following breakfast we’ll make our way towards the Serengeti, heading up and over the caldera rim of Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area on the way, stopping to take in the view for a bit.

The name Ngorongoro comes from the sound that a cowbell makes, as the area has traditionally been used by the Maasai people as a grazing area for their cattle. Just say “ngoro ngoro” three times fast and you’ll see why they bestowed that name upon the crater.
After a picnic lunch at the Serengeti National Park gate, we’ll experience our first game drive through the world-famous plains, making our way towards your lodge. Along the way, you’ll see all types of antelope, zebras, wildebeest, and possibly a few lions too.

Our team stays connected to rangers and other personnel in the park via radio, and they’ll alert each other to anything special happening nearby. Because of this, you’ll be sure to never miss a special safari moment. We’ll reach Moyo Tented Camp, a luxury safari camp right in the heart of the Serengeti, late in the afternoon. You’ll have ample time to clean up and unpack a bit before we meet together for dinner around 7:30 pm. This is going to be our home for the next three nights, so feel free to settle in a bit!

Days 4 & 5 are our two full days in the Serengeti, and comprise the heart of your trip. Here’s what your daily itinerary will look like:

MORNING: We’ll start the day with a full-spread buffet breakfast at Moyo Tented Camp, including offerings such as eggs, sausage, beans, vegetables, bread and pastries, tea, and coffee. After eating our fill, we head out for our game drive in the Serengeti. The possibilities each day are endless, but you’re guaranteed to witness the animals that you’ve come to Tanzania to see. Lions hunting prey, herds of elephants wandering through grazing lands, wildebeest and zebras having a mid-morning drink at a watering hole, or giraffes sauntering by while nibbling the tops of the iconic acacia trees.

Each day, we can head back to the camp to have a buffet lunch followed by a two- to three-hour siesta, as this is when the animals are the least active, huddling in the shade and sleeping through the harsh mid-day sun. However, we always have the opportunity to enjoy a picnic lunch in the field, which allows us maximum safari time.

Our lunch spot will usually have restrooms nearby or on the way, and you’ll be able to relax knowing that our expert guides are closely monitoring the movements of any animals nearby to ensure your safety at all times while we enjoy our mid-day meal surrounded by natural beauty.

We’ll generally finish up our safari game drives in the early evening, although if we run into something interesting it’s possible that we’ll be out a bit later. Regardless, we need to be back at the lodge by nightfall, as driving in the park at night is not permitted.

We’ll get back with enough time for you to rest up and take a shower before dinner, which is usually served between 7:30-8:30 pm. If you have time, you’re welcome to grab a drink in the lounge area.

Dinners usually consist of a buffet, with a dessert following soon thereafter. Post-dinner, feel free to hang out a bit more or to head back to your tent for the night.

Moyo Tented Camp, founded by an expert safari guide that had been leading groups for many years, is a perfect way to end each evening. Chill out with a few drinks around the bonfire as the sun sets on a perfect Serengeti day, or read a book in your tent after taking a warm shower-it’s up to you.

Traditional Tanzanian cuisine is very basic, so the food served here is geared towards western palates, with high-quality buffets prepared by expert chefs available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. No need to worry about getting a proper night’s sleep – a full-size queen bed (or two doubles) is in every room, complete with a comfortable mattress, sheets, blanket, and pillows.

We’ll make an early departure as we head towards the 12 mile/20 km wide Ngorongoro Crater. It’ll be a fun morning driving through the extinct volcano caldera, watching the animals as they go about their day. Lunch will be a picnic in a designated area, right in the heart of the crater.

After that, we slowly make our way up and out of the crater to enjoy a relaxing evening at our lodge.

After a late morning breakfast at our lodge we’ll make our way towards Arusha, making a stop at a souvenir crafts shop (if desired), after which we’ll visit a local Maasai tribe. You may have a chance to see their traditional dancing, but even more memorable is the simple act of learning about their culture and way of life.

We cap the day off with a farewell dinner back at your lodge in Arusha.

Unless you’re opting for a post-trip add-on (listed below), today we bid you farewell.

Take as long as you like to relax and enjoy your surroundings before being transferred to the airport in preparation for your flight home (3-4 hours before your flight).

Until next time!
